Yellowstone – Unforgettable

June 12, 2012

On day one, I already understand the quote from Thoreau, “The bluebird carries the sky on his back.” Our group had the pleasure of exploring this park today, together as teachers, as learners, and as excited students of nature. The mountain bluebirds and ravens and magpies played joyfully above the landscape.

The bison grazed without a care, one of the group so big we nicknamed him “Hulk.” A golden eagle dipped and dove over that same terrain, and a lone pronghorn antelope added colors of white and red to a green horizon of plants and hillside.

Yellowstone – already unforgettable in so many ways.

Where else can one see volcanic tuffs that spill forth with waterfalls? Wraith Falls enchanted our group of explorers and brought forth mule deer with velvet antlers, warblers with yellow rumps, and woodpeckers with neon red napes. Little flowers dotted the landscape: buckwheat and Jacob’s ladder and unknown blossoms tinted red and glistening in the hot sun. Bighorn sheep of Gardner Canyon romped on rocky hillsides and left us with awe and fascination – ready to soak up more.

Wraith Falls, such a beautiful place with so many animal and plant species to observe. Sure you treasured each moment there. Lots of photo ops too! As I finish the replies I must ask if you saw any ravens? Ginny B.
